Edinburgh, Scotland – The Global Entrepreneurship Network is excited to announce the opening of a new Startup Huddle chapter in Edinburgh, Scotland to support the growth of the local startup community while crowdsourcing advice and support for its entrepreneurs. Edinburgh joins a global network of more than 60 Startup Huddle chapters world-wide and hosted its first event on August 18, 2022.

"Edinburgh is a leading city in the UK for startups and scaleups and there is a need to bring founders together to learn from each other,” says Russell Dalgleish, organizer of Startup Huddle Edinburgh. “Peer learning networks are a critical component of a thriving ecosystem, and Startup Huddle will be a key driver in bringing our community together.”

In addition to providing direct support to entrepreneurs, the Startup Huddle program addresses a critical element of success for all entrepreneur ecosystems – connectivity. According to GEN research, startup communities with higher levels of local connectedness translate to an increased number of startups – and that founders with high levels of connectivity grow their revenue twice as fast as those with lower levels.

At each Startup Huddle event, local founders give six-minute presentations outlining challenges facing their companies. Each presentation is followed by a 20-minute conversation with an audience of peers, mentors, educators and advisers who provide constructive criticism focused on finding solutions and increasing founder know-how. With new founders cycling through each gathering, and previous presenters joining the audience to give back, the community continues to expand while connections deepen.

Startup Huddle Edinburgh is supported by GEN UK, Edinburgh Napier University, Scottish Business Network, and CivTech

“We are delighted to be working with GEN UK and the Scottish Business Network to host Scotland's first Startup Huddle,” says Kendra Byres, Business Engagement and Communications Manager at Bright Red Triangle, Edinburgh Napier University’s enterprise hub.

“The unique format of Startup Huddle allows entrepreneurs to share the challenges they face in a dynamic environment and receive valuable input and advice from others who have overcome similar challenges in their growth journey. The startups we host at Bright Red Triangle are excited to participate alongside more established businesses in Edinburgh."

"The Scottish Business Network has successfully developed a global community of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders who wish to lean in and support early-stage business leaders in Scotland,” says Steve Turney, ambassador for the Scottish Business Network. “Startup Huddle provides the perfect environment for us to bring together these experienced individuals with Edinburgh startups in a safe, supportive environment. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to involve international Scots who will personally attend Startup Huddle Edinburgh when returning to Scotland on regular visits."
