Tulsa, Oklahoma – April 20, 2022 – The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) announced that Cecilia Wessinger has joined the organization as the Director for Global Communities where she is responsible for being the primary interface between GEN and its leadership teams around the world. Wessinger began the assignment in March 2022.

As Director for Global Communities, Wessinger’s role is to support managing directors for GEN’s national chapters and Global Entrepreneurship Week host organizations in more than 180 countries. She also helps ensure all national GEN operations and programs are coordinated and aligned.

“Strong global and national entrepreneurship ecosystems are important as founders everywhere navigate resources, opportunities and connections to start and scale businesses in the pandemic era,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. “Wessinger is a passionate ecosystem builder who is more than up to the task. We are thrilled to have her on board.”

Wessinger joins GEN after serving as a consultant for the Kauffman Foundation and the Future Agro Challenge. She has led small group mastermind workshops and cohorts around the world and has extensive experience mentoring and advising startup founders, ecosystem builders and organizations. Wessinger has also served as a speaker, facilitator and panelist at innovation and entrepreneurship-focused events including the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, Shift, Tom-Tom Festival and ESHIP Summit.

“I was once a bootstrapping entrepreneur and know first-hand the value of a supportive ecosystem,” said Wessinger. “Working with GEN allows me to do what I love – helping create communities where people can navigate their unique entrepreneurial path before they run out of funding, energy, and sanity.”

Previously, Wessinger has judged and supported pitch competitions for SXSW, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of State's Global Innovation through Science and Technology program. She currently serves on the board of the Institute for Work and the Economy and the executive board of Startup Champions Network. She is a former travel industry professional who has lived, worked and traveled throughout the world.
